We stayed in the Amalfi Holiday Resort for 3 nights in September and I can’t express how horrified I am by my experience. I discovered that they withdrew money from my bank account after I checked out, and they have had over charged us by taking an additional €355.50 from our bank account. The hotel mangers James and Andrea are now not answering our phone calls, text messages or emails and have also blocked my number. I am reluctantly writing this review after trying to recover the money from them for the last 4 weeks, however now are left with no choice but to legal action and report the hotel to the Italian embassy and local police for fraudulently overcharging our bank card with out our permission and refusing to repay the amount. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that if we didn’t pay in cash that there would be an addition €50 cleaning fee, however if we paid cash that they would waive this fee. This was not outlined anywhere to us before we stayed at the hotel or in any terms and conditions, however, we decided to pay in cash because of this charge. We weren’t provided with any receipt for this payment. During our stay we unfortunately lost our room key and were told that there was going to be €300 charge for the key, which they said that they would take this amount from our card. After we left we found that €655.50 was taken from our card, which was over double the amount and a recharge of our entire stay at the hotel. The Hotel manger answered our phone calls only once and acknowledged that the additional amount had been taken above the agreed amount for the lost key fee and that he would look into it. Unfortunately we have not heard from him since and after trying to call the hotel several times over the last 4 weeks we have now lost hope that we will get this money back. This was a super disappointing stay at the Amalfi Holiday Resort and I would not recommend anyone stay here or give their card details to this hotel. We have sadly read several other reviews of this hotel doing similar to other guest. We will be reporting the hotel and taking legal action against the hotel, in one last hope to get our money back and protect this happening to other guests. I’m still going to try to resolve this issue by taking legal action, but it’s been a nightmare and this experience ruined our holiday. I feel completely taken advantage of. I strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to think twice and consider all the other one star reviews posted on this hotel. It’s not worth the risk—stay somewhere else where your money and peace of mind are safe!
