Excellent hotel located at the main road of the city. Breakfast has almost all varieties . Service is good. At night also you get options near the hotel entrance , having decent pub in the second floor which is quite famous .

Retro Soviet hotel in the city centre of Almaty. If you're a fan of anything Soviet then I highly recommend this hotel. The staff was helpful, kind and friendly. Breakfast was included and tasty.

Really really disappointed. ☹️ 1. The door lock wasn’t working properly, each time I lock the door, I spent 10-20 seconds fumbling on it. 2. The bedroom area had only 2 dimly lit lamps. And room furnishings were really really old. Like ancient. 3. The shower gel is dirty. There’s black sediments in the shower gel (see picture below) 4. I can hear my neighbours loud and clear The only good thing is the location and the breakfast. But it’s definitely not 4 star.

Iconic hotel in Almaty. The best ever breakfast i had with a huge spread and options. The views are amazing from the hotel windows. Must visit if you are in Almaty.

Overall it is good. Great location, great breakfast however some facilities in my first room did not work. Hotel staff changed my room after I raised facilities issues.

Everything was awesome, the setup, the location, the breakfast . Until our last evening on April 17 at about 550 pm, someone entered our room whilst we were resting, and ran off after we shouted as he was almost reaching the edge of our bed. We complained at the reception but a staff called us later to apologise and said his twin brother entered the wrong room. Very hard to believe this narrative. My wife is still traumatised by this incident

Disappointing Stay – Poor Service and Maintenance Issues Stay Dates: April 14–17, 2024 Room Type: Junior Suite (2 Rooms) Our stay at this hotel was far from satisfactory due to multiple issues. Check-in & Luggage Handling: There was no bell boy or trolley service available at reception, so we had to carry our luggage ourselves. Upon reaching the room, the key card didn’t work. We had to go back to reception twice to get it fixed, but the issue persisted. After multiple requests, a staff member finally came to assist—but only after a 25-minute wait. Room Condition: The rooms assigned to us were in horrible condition. We requested a room change, but the alternative provided was also unsatisfactory. The hotel claimed no better rooms were available, so we had no choice but to stay. Basic Amenities Missing: The room lacked a tea kettle, and despite requesting it multiple times, it was only provided on the third day. Buffet: The breakfast buffet was average—nothing exceptional. Overall Experience: Due to the poor service, maintenance issues, and lack of basic amenities, we decided to book another hotel for the remainder of our trip. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting a comfortable and hassle-free stay.

Kazakhstan Hotel located in a very strategic place where you can get plenty of food, restaurant and supermarkets. Overall experience is good and the room service need to improve. No complementary coffee and tea bags for the 1st 2 days and only requested then only they provide. Daily breakfast is excellent with local dishes, variety of fruits and desserts.

While we were aware it is an iconic, historic hotel, it did not live up to expectations. The room we had looked quite stuck in the soviet era, with an old, dated carpet and wallpaper. It is also quite cramped. There was a lot of visible dust on some surfaces, and the window was wide open when we entered the room. Air conditioning unit was clearly built in as part of the renovations several years ago, and wheezed periodically. Strangely there was literally only one power plug we could access in the entire room, and it was for the TV. Luckily we had a multi charger! The bathroom is very cramped. You can either choose to use the sink or step out from the shower, but not both. Similarly, if someone is using the wc, the door cannot be opened. In many ways this reminds us of Japanese hotel bathrooms, except poorly planned and nowhere as modern. Breakfast was busy and there clearly were insufficient tables for the guests, many had to share tables with other guests. When we went up to the room after breakfast at 1030am, our card no longer worked. We were told firmly that check out is at 12, which we are aware of. We asked for the card to be reactivated and when it was passed back to us at 1045, we were again sternly informed that check out is at 12. We've literally stayed one night - why keep telling us check out is at 12? We found this quite rude. All in, I'd only recommend this hotel if you're into the retro aesthetic and appreciate the history behind the building. It's clearly in need of an extensive renovation, and you need to be very specific if you want to stay in their refurbished rooms (evidently only on certain floors).

Very interesting experience staying in the old Soviet building. The location is very much in the center of the city with access to public bus and metro around its vicinity. The room is very basic but comfortable. Breakfast spread is really good. They have loads of fruits option. For those who are also traveling solo and wanted to use public transport to and from the airport, it is possible to hop on bus number 92 with metro access.

Subject: Excellent Location, but Overpriced and Outdated Rooms I stayed at Hotel Kazakhstan in Almaty for more than 10 days, drawn initially by its prime location. The hotel’s location is indeed its biggest strength—bang on the main road with excellent accessibility to various parts of the city, making it convenient for travelers. The property itself is a heritage hotel, and while it has its charm, the overall experience was mixed. The hotel is quite old, though the upkeep and concierge services were commendable. However, the parking facility was a major issue. During snowfall, it became extremely messy, and entering the hotel was quite challenging. Regarding the rooms, my experience varied throughout the stay: • The initial superior room booked online was decent, offering good space and facilities. • The “supreme premium superior” room I opted for later was disappointing—it was smaller, with a worse layout and fewer amenities than the superior room, which was surprising and frustrating. • For the last three days, I upgraded to a junior suite. While it offered more space, the layout and overall upkeep of the room felt outdated, leaving much to be desired. A consistent issue across all three rooms was the drainage system in the washrooms, which was poorly maintained and created unnecessary inconvenience. The breakfast provided as part of the stay had a wide selection and was good. However, the menu did not change for all nine days, which became monotonous for a longer stay. Room dining, though available, could be significantly improved in terms of quality and variety. Overall, while the location of Hotel Kazakhstan is unbeatable and perfect for those who want to stay in the heart of the city, the property feels overpriced given the outdated facilities and lack of variety in services. I would only recommend it to travelers with a good budget who prioritize location and heritage charm over modern amenities.
