Mare Hotel Apartments

Just returned from Crete and can honestly say that we've had our best holiday yet here! The staff are super friendly and always make you feel welcome. The food is typically Greek which we absolutely loved and there was always so much to choose from. The location is fantastic and the whole experience from start to finish was just perfect :) . We met some lovely people whilst staying at the Mare Olympus apartments, everybody was just so nice which you don't always get in a bigger complex. For us, we go on holiday to explore and so we never used the swimming pool once. This hotel is perfect for that with the added bonus of having such a small friendly team. I would say though that if you want to go on holiday to sit around a pool all day drinking cocktails and being waited on hand and foot, maybe book a 5 star hotel complex instead. This is a typically Cretan apartment at its finest with so much charm. There are some lovely beaches close by within walking proximity. You have the beach Kitroplatia right on your door step which is great for snorkelling. We walked along the coast to other beautiful beaches too - mainly Almyros (the golden beach) which was stunning, along with ammos (right near to the harbour). The other side past the lake also has a beautiful coastline with beaches and Mirabello bay which was lovely to swim in. If you walk to the top of the steps of the apartment and turn left, you come to a beautiful little spot with a bench to sit and watch the sunset over the lake, which I did most evenings with a glass of wine :) Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough and I will definitely be returning some day !

Not 3 star, barely 2. Do not book as all-inclusive. Most 5 star reviews are written by the staff. The Swimming pool is minute, only 4 deck chairs and not in the sun most of the day. There are not enough staff to run the bar, we were always waiting for service. Avoid.

We were at Mare Hotel Apartments Agios Nikolaos for the third time and as before it was a wonderful holiday. If you are looking for a homely atmosphere, delicious food, peace, privacy, a small hotel, a charming town, you like the beach to be a few steps away and what is very important: wonderful staff, this is the place for you! Due to the small pool and lack of space for children to play, it may not be easy for families with children. Mare Hotel THANK YOU! We will be back :) Renata and Mario

Although needing a little TLC overall, the rooms are clean/tidy, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is lovely. I would have given 5 stars, but it just needs a little bit of work/upgrading around the edges. I would say that having a member of staff on the bar full time would be beneficial, but staff are quick to come and serve you once you find someone and ask.

This hotel is a little gem. Yes maybe needs a bit of updating but a great base for being so close to the beach and the gorgeous town. Would not hesitate to book again. The staff are wonderful very friendly and welcoming really made our holiday. Thank you for a great stay.

Great hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending. Great location - beach at the end of the road and about a 5 minute walk to the centre (also would say there is a free city bus every 30 mins). Rooms all seemed different - initially given one with an upstairs bedroom via a spiral staircase so we asked to change. Maria sorted this out no problem. visitors to be aware the pool is small but given how close to the sea you are we didn’t use it. Beds were very comfy. Rooms cleaned daily. Food is great (all meals buffet style). We had a couple of days out so they made us packed lunch on these days. Particular mention to the staff who are brilliant. Maria on reception who sorts out everything! She is brilliant - great sense of humour and very knowledgeable. Also to Manos behind the bar in the dining room at meal times - it was great to meet you both. This was a lovely holiday and certainly hope to be back again.
