Here’s how I’d explore Shanghai, one memorable 3-day Shanghai Itinerary.

As the sun rises over Shanghai, the city begins to stir. Start your day at the Bund, where the historic architecture contrasts beautifully with the modern skyline of Pudong. The sight of the Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Tower across the Huangpu River is breathtaking.

Stroll leisurely along the Bund promenade, taking in the majestic views and the gentle hum of the city waking up. Afterward, cross over to Pudong to get a closer look at the skyscrapers that define Shanghai's modern marvels. Entrance fee for Shanghai Tower observation deck: approximately Rp 500,000.
The Bund: Nanjing East Road Station (Line 2/10). Pudong: Lujiazui Station (Line 2).

I spent the afternoon exploring Lujiazui, Shanghai's bustling financial district known for its impressive skyline. My first stop was the Shanghai Tower, where I took the elevator to the observation deck for a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.

The sight of Shanghai sprawling beneath me was awe-inspiring. After descending, I wandered through the IFC Mall, a luxury shopping center featuring international brands and designer boutiques. It was the perfect place to indulge in some retail therapy and window shopping. I also visited the nearby Super Brand Mall, which offers a mix of high-end and more affordable stores, catering to a variety of shopping preferences.

Before embarking on the river cruise, I explored the vibrant area around Shiliupu Wharf. This spot is home to charming cafés and shops offering unique Shanghai-themed gifts. I found a beautiful silk scarf that captured the essence of the city. As the sun began to set, I headed to the dock for the Huangpu River Cruise, a must-do experience in Shanghai.
Boarding at Shiliupu Wharf, the anticipation grew as the boat set sail. The city's transformation at night is mesmerizing—Pudong's skyscrapers illuminate the skyline with a futuristic glow, while the historic Bund buildings glisten under the city lights.
This 60-minute cruise provided the perfect opportunity to unwind and appreciate Shanghai's blend of tradition and modernity. Standing by the railing, I captured photos of the dazzling reflections on the water. The light show on the Oriental Pearl Tower was particularly captivating, enhancing the magical atmosphere of the night.

After a peaceful morning by the river, I ventured into the heart of Shanghai’s Old City. Leaving the bustling Nanjing Road behind, I was greeted by the serene and historic atmosphere of Yu Garden. The traditional architecture and tranquil ponds made it feel like a journey back in time. I spent several hours wandering through Yu Garden, taking in the intricate pavilions, rockeries, and vibrant koi ponds. The enticing aroma of street food filled the air, and I couldn't resist sampling a few snacks from local vendors.

Next, I explored Chenghuang Miao, also known as the Old City Bazaar, and its surrounding areas. The bustling streets were lined with vendors selling everything from silk fans to jade trinkets, offering a glimpse into local culture and craftsmanship.

In the afternoon, I explored the charming streets of the Former French Concession, a district known for its tree-lined avenues and historic European-style architecture. This area offers a unique blend of East and West, with its colonial-era buildings and vibrant local culture. I enjoyed a leisurely walk, taking in the picturesque surroundings and discovering hidden gems along the way.

I visited Tianzifang, a maze of narrow alleyways filled with boutique shops, art galleries, and cozy cafes. The creative atmosphere here is perfect for finding unique souvenirs or simply enjoying a cup of coffee while people-watching. Another highlight was Fuxing Park, where locals gathered for tai chi, dancing, and socializing, providing a glimpse into daily life in Shanghai.

As the sun set, I made my way to Nanjing Road, one of Shanghai's most famous shopping streets, where the city truly comes alive at night. The vibrant lights and bustling energy create an exciting atmosphere, perfect for an evening exploration. This pedestrian-friendly street is lined with a mix of modern malls, traditional shops, and street performers, offering something for everyone.

I wandered through the lively crowds, taking in the dazzling window displays and lively street performances. The area is a shopper's paradise, with everything from high-end brands to local boutiques. Even if shopping isn't on your agenda, the experience of simply strolling down Nanjing Road is a must.

Today's adventure was all about magic at Shanghai Disneyland. I arrived early, just as the gates opened, and the Disney magic was already in the air. My first stop was the magnificent Enchanted Storybook Castle, setting the perfect tone for the day. Thrill-seekers shouldn't miss the adrenaline-pumping rides like Tron Lightcycle Power Run and Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure—they truly exceeded expectations.

By midday, I explored Adventure Isle, enjoying more attractions. The afternoon flew by, culminating in the lively Disney Parade, which brought beloved characters to life, rekindling childhood memories. As evening fell, the park transformed into an even more enchanting place. I secured a spot near the Enchanted Storybook Castle for the breathtaking fireworks display, a spectacular finale with fireworks synchronized to Disney music and projections.

What truly captivated me about Shanghai wasn't just its iconic skyline or delicious street food—it was the city's unique ability to seamlessly blend the old with the new, and the tranquil with the bustling. While the crowds can be overwhelming at times and the weather unpredictable (definitely pack some layers!), these elements add to the city's dynamic charm.
Shanghai is a place where you can set your own pace, and this flexible itinerary is designed to accommodate that. If you're considering booking a flight to Shanghai, I wholeheartedly recommend it. The neighborhoods I've mentioned boast some of the Shanghai's finest hotels, and with numerous travel deals available, there's no better time to visit.
Embrace the adventure and let Shanghai surprise you with its endless possibilities. Enjoy your journey!
